Every child is a miracle just for being born. But Sedona, a daughter of Amy Wan and Jonar de Guzman, is a miracle among miracles.
Born 3 months early on Aug 5, 2021 and suffered an intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH: bleeding into the fluid-filled areas, or ventricles, surrounded by the brain) at birth, Sedona spent nearly 6 months in the NICU, underwent 4 brain surgeries and 1 g-tube surgery, and was diagnosed with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy.
Although no ones were sure how her life would be, she made a miracle. She started moving her left arm and learned to roll and sit independently, which her neurologist from the NICU remarked an absolute miracle later. But suddenly, on January 23, 2023, she left the world at 17 months old.
Sedona Butterfly Effect is a non-profit in memory of Sedona, created by her parents to help other children like her. The organization focuses on providing resources to families of babies who are at-risk or diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
